When plugging in the Uno R4 WiFi and launching Arduino IDE, you may get a prompt to update the board's firmware.

Once the firmware is updated, you must unplug and replug the Uno R4 WiFi board (doing a full power reset) to be able to write to the RA4M1.

When updating firmware, Arduino IDE sometimes does not do the appropriate power reset to allow you to code the Uno R4 WiFi properly (it sets the board to a bootloader state). Without doing a full power reset of the board, you will be writing to the ESP-32S instead of the RA4M1, and this can remove the USB interface entirely.

If you do face this problem, please follow the instructions from Arduino here: https://support.arduino.cc/hc/en-us/articles/16379769332892-Restore-the-USB-connectivity-firmware-on-UNO-R4-WiFi-with-espflash
